There are recent discoveries revolutionizing our approach to preventing diabetes, heart disease and many other lifestyle related illnesses. The Department of Public Health Sciences (formerly the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine) is a clinical and research department in the UC Davis School of Medicine. With respect to the barrier of time for example, a primary care clinician would spend 7.8 hours per day delivering the evidence-based recommendations for screening, counseling, chemoprophylaxis, and immunization. [8] This would be in addition to the 3.5 hours per day needed to deliver tertiary prevention associated with evidence-based chronic disease management -- assuming that all patients had well-controlled conditions!
