Levis is the Chief Scientist of the Air Force, on leave from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA where he is University Professor of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering and where he heads the System Architectures Laboratory of the C31 Center.
Prior to starting his PhD he was a scientist with ABB Corporate Research. Over the course of his engineering career, he has worked on several automation systems design and development projects in USA, Europe and India. He has a Masters in Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Bachelors in Manufacturing Processes and Automation Engineering from Delhi Institute of Technology. In this section, we summarize the workshop process and overall findings. Roughly 50 experts participated from the areas of modeling and simulation, behavioral and social sciences, computing, artificial intelligence, gaming, and entertainment. These experts also included many people with extensive experience in business and military operations. Participants were asked to assess the organizational simulation capabilities needed to address five challenge scenarios that are elaborated below’: Enterprise Systems 0 NASA Columbia 0 Command and Control - C2 0 Domestic Crisis - G8 0 Joint Urban Operations - JUO People were assigned to working groups - one per challenge problem - and asked to envision the important phenomena to be incorporated within organizational simulations targeted at these scenarios, as well as the nature of human interaction with these phenomena.
